Do your little ones watch a lot of Peppa Pig? Peppa is one of biggest household names in early years television right now, and has been for nearly two decades. Created in 2004 to counteract the representation of girls in children’s TV at the time, Peppa was born to be confident and perhaps a little naughty. The kind of girl who would rather splash in muddy puddles than be a princess…Since that first episode aired 20 years ago, there have been over 400 more, and although every single one is fun and unique in its own way, and loved by children of all ages, there are certain episodes that we think are absolute must-sees for true Peppa fans:
Aired in May 2004, the very first episode of Peppa Pig saw Peppa and George exploring outside, jumping in puddles and then visiting friends. Girls in cartoons didn’t often behave in the way Peppa does, and the episode ranks highly on many ‘favourite lists’ for it’s pure nostalgia – it was on TV 20 years ago for the first time, so many young parents who watched it the first time round are now showing Muddy Puddle to their own children – Peppa Pig transcends generations!
Now in it’s 8th season, with many more adventures to come, Peppa Pig’s most recently aired episode as of September 2024 was titled “Caravan Friends”. This episode also involves Peppa jumping in muddy puddles, this time whilst at a caravan park with her new friend Birgit Bear (an Estonian name!). When the caravan becomes unhooked, Birgit saves the day. There are plenty more episodes in the pipeline too, with Peppa Pig being renewed until at least 2027 – we can’t wait to see what adventures she has next, we are pretty certain it will involve more muddy puddles…
Topping most lists (other than the Christmas episode, which we talk about below) of fan favourite episodes is Season 4, Episode 2, The New House. Peppa and George visit The New House which Daddy Pig is helping Mr Bull to build, and they can’t wait to find out who the new neighbours are. Also to be found at the top of many online episode rankings is Season 5 Episode 49, The Long Train Journey, in which Mummy, Peppa and George ride along on Daddy Pig’s train ride. These episodes have family fun and joy at their centre as well as cooperation and enjoyment of every day pleasures, which is why we think they are among the best.
Once you get used to the idea of a family of talking pigs and all their animal friends, it isn’t such a leap to imagine that there might be other strange things in their universe. One of the oddest and most hilarious characters in the series is Mr Potato – who first appears in episode Potato Comes to Town, the 17th episode of Season 3, where he comes to open a Sports Centre
Mr. Potato has a French accent and a gang of anthropomorphic friends such as Little Sprout and Sweet Cranberry. He is also a big advocate of healthy eating! Writers of Peppa Pig once stated that Mr Potato was included to reiterate the idea that the show isn’t based on reality – and what better way to do that than a talking potato and his Hashbrown offspring?

View DetailsPeppa and her family win a trip to America to star in Super Potato’s movie, Vegetables in Space. A must watch episode mainly for the catchy song, “Vegetables In Space” but also because it features our favourite potato-based character (see above!) Episodes where Peppa and her family leave their town always rank highly, as the new environment give the pigs new, fun things to do, inspiring children to feel safe and confident outside of their own home environment.
Peppa’s Christmas is the first “Peppa Pig” special. It was released on December 25, 2007 and is the first extended episode, double the length of a standard episode at 10 minutes long.
There are several different Christmas episodes in total and we class them all as a must-watch! Christmas is a really fun celebration in the Pig household, from buying a Christmas Tree that won’t fit in the car to visiting Santa, there is always a theme of family celebration and joy to be had.
Many Peppa episodes have a message, promoting sharing, cooperation and kindness, traits which are important for young children to see modelled, not just from parents or caregivers but on television and all around them. One of our favourite episodes that showcases this is Daddy Pigs Birthday, which sees the whole family working together to prepare the perfect party for Daddy Pig. The episode shows how working together makes things easier and more enjoyable – teamwork makes the dream work!

Daddy Pig plays the part of a magician and magics up a special banana birthday cake for them all to eat. This year, as we are celebrating 20 years of Peppa, we’ll be sure to have a banana birthday cake on hand 🍌
After a lot of research, we think we’ve found the episode of Peppa Pig that is classed as the funniest. Although there is quite a lot of fun, clean humour for adults in Peppa Pig, this episode outweighs the rest for belly laughs. In the 10th episode from season 5, Peppa and her friends are tasked with making castles for playgroup, but the parents get so into the project they end up skipping work to try and build the best castle instead.
