When the British summer sun comes out, it’s time to push the winter jumpers to the side and finally get outside to enjoy the heat! However, we have recently experienced some very hot summer sun… here are a few water games that will keep the family cool during our 5 minutes of sun!

1. Water Balloon Fight

Nothing screams summer fun like a classic water balloon fight! Fill up a Bunch O Balloons and get ready for non-stop splashing battles. You can enjoy a free-for-all or set up teams and take part in an activity that is not only a joy but will keep the family cool throughout the warm weather. Don’t forget to pick up any pieces left on the ground to keep the garden safe and tidy for wildlife!

2. Paddling Pool Splash

A paddling pool for the family is a must-have for those sunny days. What is better than having a pool in your own private space where the children can splash around and cool off? Paddling pools come in all shapes and sizes, find the perfect one for your family and add all the bath toys, accessories or even a small slide to make it the perfect fit for you. We recommend applying extra sunscreen and wearing hats to keep the children safe while splashing in the sun.

3. Sprinkler Sprint

Turn your garden into an obstacle course with a sprinkler. Some sprinklers have different settings, play around with your sprinkler, and have the children try to dodge the water, race each other, or even have a parents vs children’s race! This is a wonderful way to keep active while enjoying some quality time together that will certainly keep you all cool.

4. Duck Duck Splash

A little splashing twist on the original game, have everyone sit in a circle while one person walks around with a small cup of water. Instead of tapping heads, they gently pour a little water on each person until they choose someone to chase them. The splasher will need to run around the circle at least once to get back to the empty seat before being tagged. Endless giggles are guaranteed here!

5. Watery Relay

Enjoy a water sports day in the garden or park by setting up different stations to make a course. One station might involve carrying a sponge full of water on your head, the other may be balancing a cup of water on your head, and another can involve jumping hurdles while holding a cup of water. This is the perfect course for teamwork, active play and gets everyone involved.

6. Slip ‘n Slide

Enjoy diving through a Slip ‘n Slide with the family watching for endless laughs. Enjoy races to see who can get to the end the quickest or play challenges like sliding to the end without spilling their cup of water everywhere! It’s a brilliant way to keep children cool. Check out inflatable toys to find all the add-ons you’ll need!

7. Bucket Races

With two empty buckets on one side of the garden and a line of cups filled with water on the other, two teams must battle it out to fill their sponges with water and transfer the water to their empty bucket. The first to fill their bucket wins! A simple game that will bring out some friendly-competition and enhance the children’s balance and coordination.

8. Nerf Battles

Take part in epic Nerf battles with the best water blasters! Whether playing in teams or playing individually, water blasters are a fantastic way for children to keep active, have fun, and not get too hot in the summer sun. Parents can go against their children by enjoying some friendly water battles, who will leave the arena (or garden!) absolutely soaked? With plenty of designs to choose from, ensure your water blaster is suitable for your child’s age and ability.

Top Tips for Safe and Fun Water Play Days

  • We recommend always supervising children when they are playing with water, especially in a paddling pool.
  • Ensure the use of sunscreen and reapply consistently when staying in the sun for a prolonged period.
  • Water is essential during the heat, even if a child is playing with water.
  • Encourage breaks in the shade to keep children safe from being over-exposed in the sun.

So, gather the water toys and water gear, invite family and friends over and enjoy a splashing day in the garden or park. With these 8 fun activities we are sure you’ll be able to keep cool even in the peak of summer. Happy splashing!
