At The Entertainer, we LOVE Peppa Pig. The adorable pink pig and her family have inspired exciting games, toys and books since she first hit our screens and we are really excited to be celebrating Peppa’s big birthday this year. We have lots of fun planned, from store visits to special promotions and so we’ve put together 20 things you might not know about everyone’s favourite porcine family.

1. The very first episode, titled “Muddy Puddles” was aired in May 2004. It’s still a firm fan favourite, featuring one of Peppa’s most iconic pastimes, jumping in puddles in her yellow wellington boots

2. Peppa Pig has her own theme park, ‘Peppa Pig World’ at Paultons Park Hampshire. Opened in 2011 and featuring the world’s largest Peppa Pig toy shop selling Peppa Pig themed merchandise. There is also a theme park in Shanghai and two more planned for New York and Beijing.

3. Created at an independent animation studio in London, Peppa was the brainchild of three animators, Neville Astley, Mark Baker and Phil Davis who continue to work with Peppa alongside a team of 16 other animators and producers.

4. Pepperius Peppa Pig is her full name!

5. Although Peppa Pig wasn’t based on a book, there have been numerous books produced about her and the other charactors in the show. Peppa meets the Queen, was written in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

6. The idea behind Peppa was to create a female character different to the usual depictions of girls in children’s TV shows. Peppa was created to be ‘confident, bright and cheeky’

7. As of March 2024, 407 episodes of Peppa Pig have aired!

8. Peppa Pig is available in over 180 countries and has been aired in over 40 different languages – often these will be dubbed by a local production team.

9. Peppa and her family have been on holiday to Australia and Paris. There are three episodes set in Austraila, Surfing, The Great Barrier Reef and Boomerang. In Paris, they visit Delphine Donkey and Delphine’s family take them up the Eiffel Tower.

10. According to Ranker, ‘Potato City’, the 1st episode of season 7 is the most loved episode of Peppa Pig!

11. Quentin Tarentino was once quoted as saying “Peppa Pig is the greatest British import of this decade” and she has lots of other celebrity fans too, from Gigi Hadid to Prince William.

12. Lots of the music in Peppa Pig was composed by the same person who created music for Wallace and Gromit – Julian Francis Kandahar Nott.

13. Peppa has released 4 albums, has 485.8K monthly listeners on Spotify and boosts over half a billion streams. In 2019, she got into a Twitter war with Iggy Azalea, who threatened she would become breakfast food if Peppa’s album beat hers in the charts! Her most recent album, Peppa’s Party, was released in July 2024.

14. One of the key objectives when creating new Peppa episodes is to approach young children’s first experiences with enthusiasm and positivity. Whether it’s going to the dentist, on holiday or visiting an older relative, Peppa helps young children to approach new situations with confidence through her themed episodes.

15. There are 10 pigs that feature in Peppa Pig episodes, all related to Peppa and her parents. Many other animals feature too – from Gabriella Goat to Zuzu & Zaza Zebra.

16. The Rabbit Family and the Zebra family are the only ones with more than two children despite many of the animals featured having larger litters in the wild.

17. Peppa’s favourite food is spaghetti – George calls it “Pighetti” and it’s the most commonly eaten food for the pig family.

18. It would take 1 full day, 8 hours and 31 mins to watch every currently-available episode of Peppa Pig in English. Each episode is around 5 mins long, with the exception of one 10 minute special “Peppa’s Christmas” and two 15 minute specials – “The Golden Boots” and “Around The World with Peppa”.

19. Peppa Pig episodes are cited in the University of Central Lancashire’s animation course – their simple stories and the strangely unique concept in children’s animation of having a beginning, middle and end means that Peppa holds a unique position in it’s genre – fitting a three act structure into five minute episodes.

20. 2024 is Peppa’s 20th birthday, and there are lots of exciting piggy surprises in store for the little pink pig and her hard-working, fun-loving family.

With over 400 episodes, theme parks and loads of fun toys in the franchise, there’s no stopping Peppa and family as they celebrate their 20th year. Keep an eye on our blog for more exciting Peppa content, announcements and surprises during the month of Peptember!
